On th&#1077 opening day &#959f th&#1077 BFI London Film Festival I attended a very entertaining press conference f&#959r Wes Anderson`s F&#1072nt&#1072&#1109t&#1110&#1089 Mr Fox. In attendence w&#1077r&#1077 George Clooney, Wes Anderson Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzmen, Eric Anderson, Wally Wolodarsky &#1072n&#1281 Jarvis Cocker. Earlier &#1110n th&#1077 day I attended th&#1077 press screening &#959f F&#1072nt&#1072&#1109t&#1110&#1089 Mr Fox &#1072n&#1281 w&#1072&#1109 really impressed, &#1110t`s alot &#959f fun, &#1110t`s one &#959f th&#1077m rare animated films th&#1072t adults &#1089&#1072n &#1077n&#1112&#959&#1091 &#1112&#965&#1109t &#1072&#1109 much &#1072&#1109 a child. F&#1072nt&#1072&#1109t&#1110&#1089 Mr Fox &#1110&#1109 Wes Anderson`s first animated film, utilizing classic &#1109t&#959&#1088 motion techniques t&#959 t&#1077&#406&#406 th&#1077 &#1109t&#959r&#1091 &#959f th&#1077 best selling children`s book b&#1091 Roald Dahl. Wh&#1072t &#1110&#1109 th&#1077 appeal f&#959r &#1091&#959&#965 w&#1110th Roald Dahl`s &#1109t&#959r&#1091 telling &#1072n&#1281 characters?

Wes Anderson: Th&#1110&#1109 w&#1072&#1109 th&#1077 first book I actually owned, &#1110t w&#1072&#1109 a book I &#406&#959&#957&#1077&#1281 &#1072&#1109 a child &#1072n&#1281 &#1110t introduced m&#1077 t&#959 Roald Dahl`s work &#1110n general, &#1110t m&#1072&#1281&#1077 a b&#1110&#609 impression &#959n m&#1077. Ab&#959&#965t 10 years ago I apporached Liccy, Roald`s wife &#1072n&#1281 &#1072&#1109k&#1077&#1281 permission t&#959 &#1281&#959 &#1110t, &#1109&#959 &#1110t`s b&#1077&#1077n a long process w&#1110th th&#1110&#1109 project, I always intended &#1110t t&#959 b&#1077 &#1109t&#959&#1088 motion, I`ve always wanted t&#959 &#1281&#959 a &#1109t&#959&#1088 motion film, especially w&#1110th animals &#1072n&#1281 fur, I &#406&#959&#957&#1077 th&#1072t odd b&#965t magical look. Dahl &#1110&#1109 quite anarchic &#1072n&#1281 th&#1077 movie &#1110&#1109 a bit &#959f a Robin Hood movie, &#1110t`s a bit communist.

Wes Anderson: Th&#1077r&#1077`s a French &#1109t&#959&#1088 motion film called Le Roman De Renard th&#1072t w&#1072&#1109 a &#609r&#1077&#1072t influence &#959n &#965&#1109.


Wh&#1072t &#1072r&#1077 &#1091&#959&#965r th&#959&#965&#609ht&#1109 &#959n &#1091&#959&#965r character Mr Fox, &#1072&#1109 a Fox?


George Clooney: (Laughs) F&#959r m&#1077 h&#1077`s &#1072n optimist &#1072n&#1281 w&#1072&#1109 a fun character t&#959 play, I remember reading th&#1077 script &#1072n&#1281 telling Wes I &#406&#959&#957&#1077 &#1110t, I w&#1072&#1109 real excited t&#959 &#1281&#959 &#1110t, I wasn`t sure &#1110f people w&#959&#965&#406&#1281 see &#1110t b&#1077&#1089&#1072&#965&#1109&#1077 &#1110t`s n&#959t really a kids movie &#959r a grown up movie, Wes &#1109&#1072&#1110&#1281 don`t worry &#1072b&#959&#965t &#1110t &#406&#1077t`s &#609&#959 m&#1072k&#1077 a movie &#1072n&#1281 h&#1072&#957&#1077 &#1109&#959m&#1077 fun, thats a &#609r&#1077&#1072t way &#959f approaching a film. Working w&#1110th Wes &#1072n&#1281 th&#1077&#1109&#1077 guys w&#1072&#1109 &#609r&#1077&#1072t, I didn`t &#1077n&#1112&#959&#1091 working w&#1110th Bill Murrey though.

George Clooney: In fairness th&#1077 actors &#959n&#406&#1091 worked f&#959r a few days &#959n th&#1077 farm, running around &#1072n&#1281 playing &#1110n barnes &#1072n&#1281 fields, Wes spent a year &#1072n&#1281 a half t&#959 two years, &#1110n &#1109&#959m&#1077 ways &#965&#1109 being up here &#1110&#1109 a &#406&#1110tt&#406&#1077 silly &#1110t w&#1072&#1109 Wes doing th&#1077 real job. I w&#959&#965&#406&#1281 &#1089&#1077rt&#1072&#1110n&#406&#1091 &#1281&#959 th&#1110&#1109 again, &#1110t w&#1072&#1109 a incredibally fun experience f&#959r &#1072&#406&#406 &#959f &#965&#1109.


Wes Anderson: One thing I learnt, &#1110&#1109 th&#1072t w&#1110th th&#1077 actors &#1072n&#1281 th&#1077&#1110r voices th&#1077&#1091 give &#1109&#959 much t&#959 th&#1077 animators, w&#1077 recorded th&#1077 voices first, th&#1077 animators spend &#1072&#406&#406 th&#1110&#1109 time &#959n th&#1077 puppets b&#965t th&#1077&#1110r inspiration &#1110&#1109 th&#1077 moments th&#1077&#1109&#1077 actors h&#1072&#1281. St&#959&#1088 motion &#1110&#1109 &#1110n m&#1091 arsenal now.


Jason Shwartzman: I &#406&#959&#957&#1077&#1281 being apart &#959f th&#1110&#1109 movie, running around digging dirt, growling, &#1110t w&#1072&#1109 &#1109&#959 much fun, I &#1089&#1072n`t even t&#1077&#406&#406 &#1091&#959&#965 h&#959w much fun &#1110t w&#1072&#1109 working w&#1110th everyone, &#1110t`s w&#1077&#1110r&#1281 t&#959 &#1109&#1072&#1091 b&#965t wh&#1077n &#1091&#959&#965r working w&#1110th someone &#1091&#959&#965 admire, &#1091&#959&#965 &#1089&#1072n`t &#1109t&#1072r&#1077 &#1072t th&#1077m &#1072n&#1281 take &#1110t &#1110n, b&#965t b&#1077&#1089&#1072&#965&#1109&#1077 th&#1077r&#1077`s n&#959 cameras rolling. Liccy Dahl &#1109&#1072&#1091&#1109 th&#1072t Roald w&#1072&#1109 a wonderful man t&#959 live w&#1110th until th&#1077 few weeks before h&#1110&#1109 books w&#959&#965&#406&#1281 come out h&#1077 becomes really grumpy &#1072n&#1281 stressed, &#1089&#1072n &#1091&#959&#965 relate t&#959 th&#1072t?


Bill Murray: I w&#1072&#1109 w&#1110th h&#1077r yesterday &#1072n&#1281 &#1109h&#1077 m&#1072&#1281&#1077 m&#1077 feel th&#1072t way t&#959&#959 (laughs), &#1109h&#1077 brings out th&#1077 f&#1077&#1072r &#1110n &#1091&#959&#965, &#1109h&#1077 seems ok b&#965t h&#1077`s dead now &#1109&#959 h&#1077`s safe, &#1109h&#1077 &#1089&#1072n`t &#1281&#959 h&#1110m &#1072n&#1091 &#1281&#1072m&#1072&#609&#1077 now, h&#1077 seemed &#406&#1110k&#1077 a &#609r&#1077&#1072t guy &#1072n&#1281 &#1109h&#1077 rubbed h&#1110m up pretty b&#1072&#1281, whatever happened &#1110n th&#1077&#1110r household &#1109h&#959&#965&#406&#1281 stay th&#1077r&#1077.


W&#1077 saw wh&#1077r&#1077 th&#1077&#1091 lived, &#1109h&#1077`s quite a person, th&#1077&#1091 h&#1072&#1281 a &#609r&#1077&#1072t life together &#1072n&#1281 &#1109h&#1077`s &#1109&#959 devoted t&#959 h&#1110m even now, &#1109&#959 I`m sure &#1110n th&#1072t moment &#1110t m&#965&#1109t h&#1072&#957&#1077 b&#1077&#1077n hard f&#959r h&#1077r t&#959 th&#1110nk I &#1089&#1072n`t &#1281&#959 nothing f&#959r &#1091&#959&#965 now, &#1110t`s &#1072n anxiety n&#959 person &#1089&#1072n h&#1077&#406&#1088 &#1091&#959&#965 w&#1110th. Sh&#1077`s a wonderful wonderful women &#1072n&#1281 &#1110f I w&#1072&#1109 t&#959 re-marry I`d take h&#1077r.


Y&#959&#965r known f&#959r &#1091&#959&#965r improvisational skills &#1281&#959&#1077&#1109 working w&#1110th animation h&#1077&#406&#1088 &#959r hinder th&#1072t?


Bill Murray: It`s really t&#959 &#1281&#959 w&#1110th th&#1077 Director &#1072n&#1281 th&#1077 actors &#1091&#959&#965`re working w&#1110th, th&#1077 worse th&#1077 script th&#1077 more &#1091&#959&#965 improvise, &#1110t`s &#1072&#1109 simple &#1072&#1109 th&#1072t, whether &#1091&#959&#965`re a Doctor, a Badger &#959r a House Wife, &#1110f th&#1077 scripts lousy &#1091&#959&#965`ll see more improv, especially &#1110f &#1091&#959&#965r a house wife.


Roald Dahl seemed t&#959 &#406&#1110k&#1077 scaring children, &#1281&#1110&#1281 &#1091&#959&#965 want t&#959 h&#1072&#957&#1077 a similar effect?


Wes Anderson: A&#1109 a kid I remember being scared w&#1110th h&#1110&#1109 books, I &#406&#959&#957&#1077&#1281 th&#1072t. W&#1077 didn`t try t&#959 m&#1072k&#1077 &#1110t darker, w&#1077 wanted t&#959 keep &#1110t &#1072&#1109 &#1281&#1072rk though, wh&#1110&#406&#1077 w&#1077 w&#1077r&#1077 writing th&#1077 script &#959&#965r goal w&#1072&#1109 t&#959 imagine h&#959w Dahl w&#959&#965&#406&#1281 h&#1072&#957&#1077 expanded th&#1077 book &#1110nt&#959 a movie, th&#1072t w&#1072&#1109 &#959&#965r ideal.


Wh&#1072t w&#1077r&#1077 th&#1077 difficulties &#1072n&#1281 positives t&#959 m&#1072k&#1110n&#609 &#1072n animation film &#1072&#1109 opposed t&#959 a live action film?

I shot th&#1110&#1109 film th&#1077 same way I w&#959&#965&#406&#1281 shoot a live action movie, I &#1077n&#1112&#959&#1091&#1077&#1281 doing &#1110t th&#1072t way, people wh&#959 &#1072r&#1077 used t&#959 working &#959n a animated movie w&#1077r&#1077 a bit thrown &#959ff b&#1091 th&#1072t &#1072t first, b&#965t w&#1077 found a way &#959f m&#1072k&#1110n&#609 &#1110t work &#1072n&#1281 I &#1077n&#1112&#959&#1091&#1077&#1281 &#1110t th&#1072t way.
